So I was out Thursday, Friday and Monday for various reasons. On Friday, our CAD guy calls to tell me that his extremely expensive liquid-cooled system was leaking and dripping on the PSU. I told him to shut it down and leave it shut down until I could get to it.
Boss goes in and “fixes” the leak with electrical tape and “cleans” the interior of the case with acetone.
Surprisingly, the system still boots. Don’t really know how long it will continue to do so.
Understandable–you basically said he couldn’t work for a few days. His boss probably didn’t like that. Why acetone, though?!?!
FIIK. Because it cleans stuff int he warehouse and a cleaner is a cleaner, I guess.
Actually it sort of makes sense… the mixture of acetone and water will evaporate more quickly than acetone alone. But acetone has significant effects on health, IIRC. Definitely not what I’d do…
